  12. This is the fourth in a series of free update patches to PageStream3. This
  13. update implements more features and fixes many problems. Text typing speed
  14. has also been improved.
  15.  
  16. Landscape printing to non-PostScript and text color did not make it into
  17. this version. We hope to get those into 3.0e which is expected just before
  18. Christmas.

  20.  
  21. TUTORIAL LESSONS
  22. ----------------
  23.  
  24. We recommend not attempting tutorial lessons 2, 3 and 4 at this time
  25. because a few of the required features are not implemented. Lessons 1 and
  26. 5 can be done now. Please refer to the manual errata section of the help
  27. system for last minute manual changes before completing the tutorial
  28. lessons.
  29.  
  30. NOTES FOR LESSON 1
  31. - page 53, #3. The window will remain titled. In this version of
  32.   PageStream3, template windows are titled (but you are prevented from
  33.   accidentally overwriting them).
  34. NOTES FOR LESSON 5
  35. - page 94, #1. You must create a new document (the size is unimportant)
  36.   before starting this lesson.
  37. - page 94, #4. If your text column frame has a gray background after
  38.   changing the color to Yellow, you are in four color mode. After you
  39.   finish #5, you may wish to use Settings/Screen to change to 8 or 16 color
  40.   mode.

  43. REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT NOTE
  44. -----------------------------
  45.  
  46. PostScript users only: Before you start using 3.0d, delete all #####.pfb
  47. (ie, 91545.pfb) files in any directory you have that contains Compugraphic
  48. Intellifonts that you have used with PageStream3. These files were created
  49. by PageStream's Compugraphic font engine to create downloadable PostScript
  50. fonts; however, changes have been made in the ways these fonts are created
  51. in 3.0d, so you must delete your old #####.pfb files so that new ones can
  52. be created the next time you print. The #####.pfb files for fonts included
  53. with PageStream (as long as these fonts are still in the
  54. PageStream3:Fonts/Intellifonts directory) will be deleted automatically
  55. during the installation of this patch.

  58. CHANGES FROM 3.0c TO 3.0d
  59. -------------------------
  60.  
  61. FONTS:
  62. - Triumvirate Oblique and Bold Oblique can now be used.
  63. - Now supports more PFM file variants.
  64.  
  65. TEXT:
  66. - Text entry speed has been increased. Text entry speed is still dependent
  67.   on the length of the article. Typing on the first line is not much faster
  68.   than 3.0c, but typing on the thirtieth line of an article is now twice as
  69.   fast as 3.0c.
  70. - The screen will now scroll as you type to keep the cursor visible.
  71. - Implemented double click to end text frame linking. At this time you must
  72.   double click anywhere to end linking. You can't single click a second
  73.   time on the last linked frame to end linking yet.
  74. - Holding down a Shift key while choosing Type/Manual Kern will remove all
  75.   manual kerning from the selected text. If you import a PageStream1 or 2
  76.   document that contained batch kerned text, you should use this to remove
  77.   the batch kerning (which was really manual kerning) and then apply Auto
  78.   Kerning instead.
  79. - Fixed leading problems on the first line without text.
  80. - Fixed all known tab highlighting problems.
  81. - Fixed manual kerning problems.
  82. - Fixed disappearing text problem with rotated frameless text objects.
  83. - Discontinuous selection: Ctrl for discontinous text selection works again.
  84. - Text codes: no longer converts accented characters to codes if they're
  85.   present in the selected character set. (Makes non-English text more
  86.   readable with SendToEditor in PageLiner.)
  87. - Text codes: fixed blackslash problem.

  89. TEXT IMPORT/EXPORT:
  90. - Fixed WordPerfect 4.1 linefeed problem. (Words were joined without spaces.)
  91. - Fixed ProWrite margins import problem.
  92.  
  93. GRAPHICS:
  94. - Faster display of unrotated pictures.
  95. - Resizing objects now snaps to grid properly.
  96. - Resizing drawings, groups, etc, now have correct Edit palette values.
  97. - Implemented gradient fills at all angles, and all taper types, on screen
  98.   and to non-PostScript (already was done for PostScript).
  99. - Improved wide curve display and printing to non-PostScript.
  100. - Implemented all Text Wrap modes and horizontal offsets. Vertical offsets
  101.   are not implemented yet.
  102.  
  103. GRAPHIC IMPORT/EXPORT:
  104. - Placing a picture or drawing will now show the rotation and slant values
  105.   in the Edit palette (they were initially blank in 3.0c).
  106. - Fixed all known ProDraw Clip import stroke weight and fill problems.
  107. - Fixed problems importing EPS files with an EOF.
  108. - Fixed line weight problems for Art Expression EPS import.
  109.  
  110. DOCUMENT LOADING/SAVING:
  111. - Fixed ProPage loading picture scale problem.
  112.  
  113. PRINTING:
  114.   (some of these changes were made in printer drivers uploaded after 3.0c,
  115.   but before 3.0d. The improved drivers are also included with 3.0d.)
  116. - Fixed all known Preference printing crash problems. (Finally!)
  117. - Implemented the print progress meter. (The meter advances after rendering
  118.   (non-PostScript) or sending (PostScript) each object. Non-PostScript
  119.   printing is done in strips, and the meter will not advance while a strip
  120.   is sent to the printer; only when the strip is created.
  121. - Fixed PostScript printing of DMF fonts.
  122. - Fixed PostScript printing of spaces in Compugraphic fonts.
  123. - Fixed PostScript printing of hyphens and other characters.
  124. - Fixed PostScript printing of special characters on second use of font
  125.   (multiple page problem).
  126. - Faster printing of unrotated pictures to non-PostScript printers.
  127. - Added gamma correction for HP color printing. (Makes colors look better.)
  128. - Improved the color output on HP CMYK Deskjet printers by substituting K
  129.   for CMY when desirable.
  130. - Fixed Printing Preferences Source option problems for certain HP models.
  131. - Fixed Fargo.printer driver that was broken in 3.0c.
  132. - Added HP520, 540 and 560 models to the HP driver list.
  133. - Fixed a band problem with Floyd-Steinberg dithering.
  134. - Fixed PostScript tiling problem.
  135. - Fixed cancelling of printing to disk.
  136. - PostScript thumbnail printing: now inserts a default scale percentage so
  137.   that you don't accidentally print 100% thumbnails. Correct page numbers
  138.   are now printed with crop and reg marks for thumbnails.
  139. - Non-PostScript thumbnail printing is now implemented. Note that the
  140.   fancy thumbnail extras for PostScript such as page borders and numbers
  141.   are not printed to non-PostScript at this time.
  142. - Fixed problems when printing multiple ranges using a space instead of a
  143.   comma.
  144.  
  145. PAGESTREAM2 DOCUMENT LOADING:
  146. - Now loads text wrap options correctly. (Some text wrap options, including
  147.   offsets, are not implemented in 3.0d so they may not display correctly.)
  148. - Fixed bug in loading characters 1 to 31 (the font name was inserted into
  149.   the text instead of the character).
  150.  
  151. TUTORIALS:
  152. - SetLessonDefaults now sets the default window position to be above the
  153.   Edit palette, as shown in the tutorial lesson screenshots in the manual.
  154.  
  155. MISCELLANEOUS:
  156. - Fixed enforcer hit problems when opening a window, typing, highlighting
  157.   text, and creating a text frame.
  158. - Worked around conflict with CBE, PowerSnap and other clipboard utilities.
  159.   (Program locked up on first Copy after a Paste.) Not really a bug fix,
  160.   but the conflict has been avoided.
  161. - Fixed all known Undo crash problems.
  162. - Fixed Paste command to paste objects in the center of the window rather
  163.   than the objects' original position. (This was supposed to be done in
  164.   3.0c but didn't make it into that release.) Note: Hold down Shift while
  165.   choosing Paste to paste in the objects' original position.
  166. - Changed the default document window height to be 32 pixels from the
  167.   bottom of the screen, to leave room for the Edit palette. (If you have
  168.   already chosen Settings/Snapshot Display, this will not affect you.)
  169. - Improved visual mouse position accuracy at high magnifications.
  170. - Drawing with grid snap on will now display Edit palette coordinates in
  171.   multiples of the grid.
  172. - Enlarged the large toolboxes to be 50 percent larger than the small
  173.   toolboxes. The icons are still the same size. (This may change in the
  174.   future.)
  175. - Added two new optional PageStream3.prefs entries: COPYFTXT TRUE|FALSE and
  176.   COPYDR2D TRUE|FALSE. The default for both is true. Use these to stop
  177.   PageStream3 from copying IFF FTXT and/or IFF DR2D to the clipboard when
  178.   copying text and graphics, respectively. Turning off IFF DR2D is not a
  179.   big deal---you will only lose clipboard compatability with TypeSmith and
  180.   the handful of other programs that support DR2D in the clipboard. If you
  181.   don't need this compatibility, turn IFF DR2D off to cut object copying
  182.   times. (You will still be able to paste and import IFF DR2D, but you will
  183.   no longer copy the redundant data.) Turning off IFF FTXT is not
  184.   recommended, because you will lose compatibility with all other programs
  185.   that support text in the clipboard. ie: PageLiner, Turbotext, Final
  186.   Writer, etc.
  187. - Fixed Settings/Toolbox and Edit Palette checkmarks being out of synch
  188.   when starting PageStream.
  189. - The length of the rulers in Set Guides should now equal the size of the
  190.   page.
  191. - Fixed the problem with Object/Edit for a group's original width/height.
  192.  
  193. MACRO SCRIPTS:
  194. - Automatic Text Frame macro is now fully implemented.
  195. - Send to BME now maintains text wrap attributes.
  196. - Fixed Tech Report macro when Company registration was not set, and when
  197.   names were short.
  198. - Fixed enforcer hit during Open Template macro.
  199. - Added Avery 2160 label size for Open Template macro.
  200.  
  201. MACRO COMMANDS:
  202. - Recording a macro that executes an ARexx script stored in "Ram Disk:"
  203.   will now work. (The space in "Ram Disk:" was causing a problem.)
  204. - New commands: removepairkern
  205. - Improved commands: setpairkern, getcursor, settextrouting, settoolmode
  206.  
  207. NOTES:
  208. - Adding lots of fonts no longer slows down text entry speed. (As of v3.0c.)

  211. CHANGES FROM 3.0b TO 3.0c
  212. -------------------------
  213.  
  214. PAGESTREAM2 DOCUMENT LOADING:
  215. - Expanded PageStream2.fontlist file that recognizes more PD fonts.
  216. - Fixed the Macros/Analyze FONTLISTv2 macro which did not work at all.
  217. - Fixed problems with hanging outdents not being properly imported.
  218.  
  219. IMPORT/EXPORT:
  220. - Improved ASCII import filter quote conversion.
  221. - Fixed ProDraw Clip import line weight problems.
  222. - Implemented PageStream text code engine. Send to Editor for text now
  223.   works as advertised.
  224.  
  225. TEXT:
  226. - Text entry speed has been further increased. Typing text in a new frame
  227.   is twice as fast as 3.0b if the Edit palette is open, and 50% faster if
  228.   the Edit palette is closed. Having text attribute palettes no longer
  229.   slows down typing so text entry and editing speed is identical with the
  230.   Edit palette open and closed now.
  231. - Sped up rasterizing PostScript fonts. (The first time you use a PostScript
  232.   font at outline size, it will appear twice as fast as in 3.0b.)
  233. - Fixed the big text object bug. (Create a text object, delete it, create
  234.   another, crash.)
  235. - Obliqued PostScript fonts (ones that have the oblique bit set in the
  236.   font, such as most Futura and Uniform fonts) are now supported. (This
  237.   was added in the final version of the 3.0b update, in PS.font 1.0d.)
  238. - Fixed Paragraph Format, Right Indent.
  239. - Improved PostScript and Soft-Logik bitmap screen font scaling. (It was
  240.   not as good as v2.2 before, now it's better.)
  241. - Monospaced tracking is now implemented.
  242. - Changed default tab spacing to 0.333" as indicated in the manual.
  243. - Adding style tags will now update the palette lists.
  244. - Changed the default background of columns created with Create Columns
  245.   from transparent to opaque to make it the same as previous versions of
  246.   PageStream. (Users were confused by the grid and guides showing through
  247.   the column frames.)
  248. - Added support for PFM files as mentioned on page 14 of the manual. (Mac
  249.   Type 1 support is not done yet.) If you have a font with both AFM and
  250.   PFM files, you should generally use the PFM because it is smaller. (You
  251.   can delete the AFM if you wish.)
  252.  
  253. PRINTING:
  254. - Adding font re-encoding for PostScript printing. (In layman's terms, this
  255.   means that non-standard characters should now print. If you find characters
  256.   which still don't print, report the font type, font name and character
  257.   to us for testing.)
  258. - Changed the offsets for the HP, Epson and Fargo drivers. Offsets of 0,0
  259.   should now be suitable for most people. You MUST change your offsets in
  260.   the Printing Preferences requester or else your printing will be double
  261.   offset.
  262. - Fixed problems printing backslash characters to PostScript.
  263. - Made DMF fonts with spaces in their names print to PostScript. (ie,
  264.   Roman Bookface and West Side.)
  265. - Fixed the other A4 page size problem in the HP.printer driver.
  266. - Fixed potential crash problems with the Preference.printer driver.
  267. - Added more supported printer models to the Epson.printer driver.
  268. - Removed the 'M' printers from the HP driver model list. If you have a HP4M
  269.   4ML, 4MP..., you should use the PostScript driver, not the HP driver. If
  270.   for some reason you wish to print non-PostScript, use the corresponding
  271.   HP4, 4L, 4P... driver. (These were removed to avoid confusion.)
  272. - Stop gadget during printing is now implemented, but will not stop printing
  273.   until after the current object. (Just like 2.2.) Note that the progress
  274.   meter is not implemented yet.
  275.  
  276. MACROS & AREXX:
  277. - New commands: openbusyrequester, setbusyrequester, getbusyrequester,
  278.   closebusyrequester. (Look at the improved TechReport.REXX script for an
  279.   example of correct usage.)
  280. - getcoord macro works again. (This was used by the StickyNote script
  281.   which is why it didn't work in 3.0b.)
  282. - New parameters for: pasteobject, placegraphic, savedocument.
  283.  
  284. PAGELINER:
  285. - If you run it a second time (ie, if you use Send to Editor for text when
  286.   PageLiner is already started), it no longer presents a Shutdown/Cancel
  287.   requester.
  288. - Modified spell checker to ignore PageStream text codes.
  289.  
  290. MISC:
  291. - Save as Template is now implemented.
  292. - Fixed snap-to-grid problems. Objects should now snap correctly.
  293. - Fixed Paste command to paste objects in the center of the window rather
  294.   than the objects' original position.
  295. - Scrolling popup menu gadgets now scroll 10 times as fast instead of 4
  296.   times as fast when the mouse pointer is over the scroll arrow. This
  297.   makes it feel more responsive when you have a large number of fonts.
  298. - Scrolling popup menu gadgets now do not start to scroll when the mouse
  299.   pointer is over the up or down arrows until you move the mouse at least
  300.   2 pixels. This prevents the Font popup gadget in the Edit palette from
  301.   scrolling when it first opens.
  302. - Fixed a problem with Save As in which the internal document name would
  303.   not get changed.
  304. - BMP filter problems fixed.
  305. - Fixed some insertion point (cursor) redraw problems.
  306. - Fixed a memory problem when exporting macros.
  307. - Changed the weight of hairlines from 0 to 0.3pt as indicated in the
  308.   manual.
  309. - Fixed screen display and non-PostScript printing of bevel joins.
  310. - Adding a font path when it already exists will now update the existing
  311.   path.

  314. CHANGES FROM 3.0a TO 3.0b
  315. -------------------------
  316.  
  317. TEXT:
  318. - Text entry and formatting is 50% faster in this version.
  319. - Paragraph Format: Left/First/Right Indent are now implemented.
  320. - Ctrl C and D special character shortcuts are now implemented.
  321. - Insert Character works again.
  322. - Default tab spacing has been implemented.
  323. - Cut/Copy/Paste in frameless text objects works now.
  324. - Keyboard shortcuts for moving the insertion point in frameless text
  325.   objects have been implemented.
  326. - Edit palette arrow gadgets for text size, width, tracking and leading
  327.   can now be used with a Shift key for greater precision.
  328. - Fixed the Convert Case commands.
  329. - Pasting a text wrapped object now updates text frames overlapping it.
  330. - Fixed the displaying of PS or DMF fonts at low magnifications or very
  331.   small sizes on screen which would offset them from their baseline.
  332. - Fixed Times Bold/Italic reversal on PostScript printers.
  333. - Fixed ASCII, FTXT, Excellence and Final Writer filters for problems
  334.   caused by converting more than 11 dashes.
  335. - Double spacing between sentences no longer permits the 2nd space to fall

  338. - Linked frames on the same page should now update properly.

  342. PRINTING:
  343. - Fixed color HP.printer DeskJet problems.
  344. - Fixed HP.printer PaintJet problems.
  345. - New Fargo.printer driver for the Primera wax thermal and dye sublimation
  346.   printer. (This will not work with the Primera Pro.)
  347. - Improved Epson.printer color printing to decrease saturation.
  348. - Corrected A4 paper size in HP.printer and Epson.printer.
  349. - Print requester options will now remain set from one print job to the
  350.   next during the current session.
  351. - Improved ordered dithering for HP, Epson and IFF ILBM printer drivers.
  352. - PostScript: error handler is now off as the default. If you have saved
  353.   your settings, you can speed up printing by turning off the error
  354.   handler in Printing Preferences and then saving your settings again.
  355. - Fixed color PostScript printing of certain pictures.
  356. - Fixed display and printing of the bold and italic variations of the
  357.   standard 35 fonts, by adding DMF files for these fonts. (This requires
  358.   the PS3B2.LHA archive.)
  359. - Fixed some problems printing drawings to PostScript.
  360. - Fixed printing multiple frames on one page to PostScript.
  361. - Fixed some non-standard character PostScript printing for resident fonts
  362.   and for downloaded Adobe Standard Encoded fonts.
  363. - Fixed HP.printer printing when the paper size was greater than 8.5x11".
  364.  
  365. PAGESTREAM2 DOCUMENT LOADING:
  366. - If you converted 2.2 documents to 3.0 with previous versions of 3.0,
  367.   each article will really be one paragraph. (New Line codes were inserted
  368.   instead of New Paragraphs. Refer to page 168 for info on new lines vs
  369.   new paragraphs.) This is somewhat important, because paragraph spacing
  370.   cannot be used if the entire article is one paragraph, and things like
  371.   automatic drop caps and bullets will only appear at the start of the
  372.   article. You can fix this by positioning the insertion point at the
  373.   start of each 'paragraph' (new line), then pressing Backspace and then
  374.   Return. Alternatively, if you haven't already made a change to the
  375.   document in 3.0, simply reload the 2.2 document into 3.0b to convert it
  376.   properly.
  377. - Text was being loaded with Track table set to Normal, which could change
  378.   line breaks. It now loads with Track table set to None.
  379. - Fixed the problem with PageStream2 text frames having multiple columns
  380.   on loading.
  381.  
  382. MACROS & AREXX:
  383. - added the sendtopageliner script.
  384.  
  385. MISC:
  386. - Loading a 3.0 document now preserves double-sided master page.
  387. - PageStream 2.2 documents now load unnamed.
  388. - Changed AmigaDOS 2.x color allocation to be more stingy with colors.
  389. - Text frame backgrounds now default to transparent instead of opaque. If
  390.   you have saved your Toolbox Preferences, you can change this and then
  391.   save your settings again.
  392. - Settings/Screen: if the Display DPI text gadgets are blank, PageStream
  393.   will use the default resolution for most standard screen modes now. This
  394.   is convenient if you often switch between screens of different standard
  395.   resolutions. If you enter values, it won't switch automatically.
  396. - Problems with moving drawings containing groups and lines are resolved.
  397. - Several of the filters have been reduced in size to save memory.
  398. - Fixed problems with master pages renaming to default.
  399. - Added a busy pointer when showing font samples.
  400. - Added the ability to change PageStream3's interface colors. Refer to the
  401.   Screen option in the Interface topic group in the main PageStream3 Help
  402.   screen for more information. You must download the PS3B3.LHA archive to
  403.   get the new version of the help files.
  404. - The Visual Reference gadgets in the Help system did not work under
  405.   AmigaDOS 2.x. The new help files in the PS3B3.LHA archive fix this
  406.   problem. Depending on when you received PageStream3 and whether you had
  407.   AmigaGuide on your system already, the WDisplay utility may not have been
  408.   installed in your Sys:Utilities directory. If it is not there and you have
  409.   AmigaDOS2, you should decompress it from the Guide.LHA archive on your
  410.   original disk 2.
  411.  
  412. BME
  413. - New Emboss and Sharpen effects have been added! Refer to the help system
  414.   for information. (The new help files are included in the PS3B3.LHA
  415.   archive.)
  416.  
  417.  
  418. CHANGES FROM 3.0 TO 3.0a
  419. ------------------------
  420.  
  421. TEXT:
  422. - Frameless text objects implemented!
  423. - Eliminated extra text redraws when applying attributes!
  424. - Current attribute defaults are now implemented. (You can now place the
  425.   insertion point (cursor), change the font or other attributes, and then
  426.   type, without reverting back to Triumvirate.)
  427. - Edit palette arrow gadgets now repeat for text features.
  428. - Changed default alignment from justified to left.
  429. - Amiga keyboard shortcuts now work.
  430. - You now get a normal height cursor when you click in a frame.
  431. - Right indent tab are now done.
  432. - Stopped text from being displayed outside of its frame.
  433.  
  434. PRINTING:
  435. - New custom Epson driver included!
  436. - HP color variants now supported.
  437. - Some Canon variants are now supported. Choose the Epson driver from the
  438.   Printing Preferences' Type popup, and choose the Canon model from the
  439.   Model popup. (These Canon printers are similar to Epson printers.)
  440. - Printing Compugraphic fonts to PostScript now saves the generated PFB
  441.   versions of the fonts on disk. This solves the timeout problem.
  442. - Improved Floyd-Steinberg dithering.
  443. - TO color percentage fixed for PostScript.
  444. - Collate now defaults to off.
  445. - Do Not Print flag (Edit palette, Object/Edit) now implemented.
  446. - Parenthesis problem (PostScript) fixed.
  447. - Multiple copy problem (non-PostScript) fixed.
  448.  
  449. MISC:
  450. - Tab key problem fixed.
  451. - Enforcer hits on changing Edit palette modes fixed.
  452. - Object selection (it selected the stack of objects) fixed.
  453. - Select and move immediately problem fixed.
  454. - Click click drawing for Column tool fixed, and all click click drawing
  455.   made less sensitive. (Click click drawing is the 2.2 method of drawing
  456.   objects instead of 3.0's drag draw method and is still supported for
  457.   those who haven't learned the new method yet.)
  458. - View Prefrences Scale problem fixed.
  459. - Toolbox Preferences: Pie and Arc are no longer reversed.
  460. - Toolbox Preferences: Opaque/Transparent is no longer ignored.
  461. - Fixed the Set Grid pica problem.
  462. - Font Prefreferencess: Cache settings are now loaded.
  463. - Autoscroll now works when resizing objects.
  464.  
  465. POSTSCRIPT FONTS:
  466. - Fixed enforcer hits when adding ABF files. YOU MUST UPDATE ALL FONT PATHS
  467.   WITH ABF FILES IN THEM OR THEY WILL NO LONGER WORK.

  469. COMPUGRAPHIC FONTS:
  470. - Intellifonts should now rotate/slant/twist correctly.

  472. FILTERS:
  473. - ASCII and IFF FTXT tabs now import correctly.

  542. - If you need to force a screen redraw because PageStream didn't properly
  543.   redraw the screen, choose Macros/Refresh Window. This is assigned to F10
